LOS ANGELES, CA – A man has turned himself in after a hit-and-run collision in Tarzana left a pedestrian in critical condition, authorities said Friday.
The incident occurred around 9:25 a.m. on February 11 at the intersection of Reseda Boulevard and Clark Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
Investigators said the driver of a black Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling southbound on Reseda Boulevard when he made a left turn onto Clark Street, striking a pedestrian who was in a marked crosswalk.
After the collision, the driver initially stopped, got out of his truck, and approached the victim, who was lying injured in the street. However, rather than rendering aid or identifying himself, the driver returned to his vehicle and fled the scene, heading eastbound on Clark Street, police said.
Emergency responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived and transported the pedestrian, a man in his 60s, to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Authorities have not released the victim’s name, pending notification of his next of kin.
Following the hit-and-run, LAPD detectives released a description of the suspect, noting that he was wearing a baseball hat, a blue jacket, and dark-colored pants. Officials urged any witnesses to come forward with information.
One day later, 48-year-old Jessee Robinson of Tarzana turned himself in at the West Valley police station, where he was arrested and booked for felony hit-and-run. His bail was set at $80,000.
LAPD reminded drivers of their legal responsibility to stop after an accident, render aid, and notify emergency services.
“Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” LAPD said in a statement.
Authorities have not disclosed whether Robinson provided an explanation for leaving the scene or how long he remained with the victim before fleeing. The investigation remains ongoing.
