LOS ANGELES, CA – A longstanding pet store in Los Angeles’ Fairfax District was burglarized early Saturday after a suspect smashed through the storefront and fled before officers arrived, authorities said.
Los Angeles Police Department officers responded around 4:30 a.m. to the 7500 block of Beverly Boulevard after a business alarm was triggered.
When officers arrived, evidence at the scene confirmed that a burglary had occurred, police said.
The suspect had already fled before officers reached the business. Officers searched the building, but no suspect was located.
No injuries were reported, and police took a burglary report.
Information reviewed by Street People indicates the targeted business was The Urban Pet, a pet store that has operated at the location for nearly two decades.
The store’s owner said the suspect smashed a window to enter the business, then moved through the store and made their way upstairs.
Security footage from inside the business reportedly showed the suspect wearing a hoodie and backpack while using a phone flashlight and searching through parts of the store.
The owner said the suspect appeared to know where to go to disconnect the security system.
Police have not confirmed how much was stolen. The owner said several thousand dollars were taken from a safe and estimated the damaged storefront would cost about $1,500 to repair.
Authorities have not released a description of the suspect beyond what was seen in surveillance footage.
The investigation remains ongoing.
