LOS ANGELES, CA – A pickup truck driver was killed early Thursday after losing control, striking a fire hydrant and a tree, and rolling the vehicle onto its side in Los Angeles’ Eagle Rock neighborhood, authorities said.
Los Angeles Police Department officers responded around 3:36 a.m. on July 31 to a crash near Colorado Boulevard and Wiota Street.
For reasons still under investigation, the driver of a pickup truck lost control before crashing into the hydrant and tree, police said. The force of the collision caused the truck to roll over and come to rest on its side.
The driver, described only as a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of relatives.
The crash sheared the fire hydrant, sending water rushing down the street and flooding nearby areas as crews worked to shut off the flow.
Information reviewed by Street People indicates emergency personnel also set up a canopy around the victim while investigators processed the crash scene.
Distraught family members arrived at the location as police worked to secure and clear the area.
Authorities have not said whether speed, impairment, mechanical issues or roadway conditions may have contributed to the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
