LOS ANGELES, CA – A driver was killed and three passengers were seriously injured Wednesday night after a vehicle carrying four people plunged hundreds of feet off Angeles Crest Highway in La Cañada Flintridge, officials said.
The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m., according to the Pasadena Police Department.
Emergency crews responding to the scene found the vehicle several hundred feet below the roadway in difficult terrain, fire officials said.
“The vehicle was several hundred feet below the road and was difficult to access,” officials said.
The driver, described as a woman, died at the scene. Authorities said efforts to recover her body were complicated by the steep and challenging terrain.
The three passengers were described only as Orange County residents in their 20s. They suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals.
Information reviewed by Street People indicates a Pasadena firefighter also suffered a leg injury during the rescue operation and was taken to a hospital. The firefighter’s condition was not immediately released.
Multiple agencies assisted with the rescue, including the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Glendale Fire Department and Montrose Search and Rescue.
The Pasadena Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
Authorities have not released the identity of the driver or said what may have caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
The investigation remains ongoing.
