LOS ANGELES, CA – The grandchild of a California state senator was killed in a head-on collision during the holiday season, authorities confirmed. The suspected DUI crash occurred in Apple Valley on the evening of December 23, leaving family members mourning the unexpected loss.
According to a press release issued by the office of Senator Bob Archuleta (D-Pico Rivera), the victim, identified as 30-year-old Alex Robles, was driving near California State Route 18 in San Bernardino County when the vehicle was struck by a driver suspected of being under the influence.
Robles, described by the family as kind-hearted and aspirational, was killed instantly in the crash. Meanwhile, the other driver, who was not injured, was arrested at the scene by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputies, the release stated.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Senator Archuleta and his wife rushed to Victorville to be with their oldest daughter, Sandra, and offer support to the rest of the family.
Archuleta described Robles as a loving individual who had a bright future ahead.
“Alex was ready to take on a career that had always been a dream, even at a young age,” Archuleta said in a statement. “Alex had already touched many lives and made a difference in this world.”
The senator also took the opportunity to issue a warning about the dangers of driving under the influence, especially during the holiday season.
“We have to stress how important it is during the holidays that we do not let anyone drive while they are intoxicated, because this can happen to any family at any time,” Archuleta said. “This is a profound loss to us, and no one should ever have to experience a tragedy like this.”
Robles’ death has left family members grappling with grief, while the investigation into the suspected DUI driver is ongoing. Officials have not released the identity of the suspect, nor have they confirmed whether formal charges have been filed.
Senator Bob Archuleta, who has represented California’s 30th Senate District since 2018, serves parts of Los Angeles and Orange counties. Known for his advocacy work and community engagement, Archuleta emphasized that his family’s loss should serve as a reminder of the consequences of impaired driving.
The California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department continue to investigate the incident, and further details are expected as the case progresses.
In the wake of the tragedy, Archuleta said the family is focused on honoring Robles’ memory and hopes their story encourages others to make responsible choices when it comes to drinking and driving.
The community has expressed condolences and support for the Archuleta family as they grieve the loss of their loved one. Additional information regarding the suspect’s court appearance and legal proceedings is expected in the coming weeks.
