LOS ANGELES, CA – Police are searching for a man accused of following a woman from a North Hollywood gym and assaulting her as she walked home, authorities said.
The attack occurred on July 19 after the woman left a Planet Fitness location around 8:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police said the suspect approached the woman from behind and assaulted her without consent. Authorities released a community alert seeking the public’s help identifying the man.
Information reviewed by Street People indicates investigators are concerned the suspect could pose a continuing threat and are asking anyone who recognizes him to come forward.
Police released surveillance images of the suspect. He was described as a White or Hispanic man with black hair and brown eyes. Authorities said he is about 6 feet tall, has a large build and bushy hair.
He was last seen wearing a tan long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans and boots.
The assault has raised concerns among women who visit the gym and walk through the area, particularly during early morning or nighttime hours. Some gym members said they already take precautions when arriving or leaving in the dark.
Authorities have not released additional details about whether the suspect had any prior contact with the victim, how long he may have followed her, or whether he has been connected to any other incidents.
Police are urging residents and businesses in the area to review any surveillance footage from the evening of July 19 that may show the suspect before or after the attack.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the LAPD’s North Hollywood Division at 818-754-8458.
The investigation remains ongoing.
