LOS ANGELES, CA – Southern California residents will get only a brief break from dangerous heat this week, with advisory-level conditions expected to ease after Monday before another heat wave pushes temperatures back into triple digits by the weekend, forecasters said.

Extreme heat warnings and heat advisories remain in effect through Monday evening across parts of the region. Residents are being urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned spaces, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and check on relatives, neighbors and others who may be vulnerable.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures ranging from 95 to 101 degrees, combined with higher-than-normal humidity, will create hazardous heat conditions through the day.

The added humidity has made the heat feel more oppressive across the region.

Information reviewed by Street People indicates a slight cooldown is expected Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures dropping by a degree or two in some areas. Lower humidity levels are also expected to make conditions feel somewhat more comfortable.

The relief, however, is expected to be short-lived.

By Thursday, an upper-level high-pressure system is forecast to shift back toward Arizona, allowing temperatures to climb again across Southern California.

By Saturday, afternoon highs could reach between 100 and 110 degrees in parts of the region, forecasters said.

“Even the normally cool beaches will be in the 80s,” the Weather Service said. “All maximum temperatures will be 10 to 15 degrees above early August normals.”

Forecasters expect extreme heat warnings and advisories to return as the next heat wave intensifies later this week.

Officials are reminding residents that heat-related illness can develop quickly, particularly for older adults, young children, outdoor workers, people without reliable air conditioning and those with underlying medical conditions.

Residents are also advised to limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, wear lightweight clothing and never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.

The heat is expected to remain a major weather concern across Southern California through the weekend.
