LOS ANGELES, CA – A 21-year-old Twentynine Palms man is expected to face multiple felony charges after authorities said he led deputies on a high-speed pursuit in a stolen vehicle while allegedly holding a victim inside.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect as Rodney Frazier-Goodson, 21.
The incident began around 6:41 a.m. on July 26, when deputies from the Sheriff’s Department’s Morongo Basin Station were alerted by an automated license plate reader that a stolen vehicle had been spotted near State Route 62 and White Feather Road, authorities said.
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but Frazier-Goodson allegedly refused to pull over and sped away, prompting a pursuit.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, Frazier-Goodson slowed the vehicle at one point during the chase, allowing a victim to safely exit before continuing to flee.
Information reviewed by Street People indicates investigators believe the victim had been held inside the stolen vehicle during the pursuit. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or additional details about how the alleged kidnapping began.
Deputies said Frazier-Goodson repeatedly drove into oncoming traffic, creating an immediate danger to the public as the pursuit continued through the area.
The chase ended near Highway 247 and Boone Road in Landers after deputies used a pursuit intervention technique, commonly known as a PIT maneuver, to stop the vehicle.
During the maneuver, authorities said Frazier-Goodson lost control and crashed into a dirt embankment.
Deputies provided medical aid at the scene before Frazier-Goodson was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment.
Authorities said that once he is released from the hospital, Frazier-Goodson is expected to be booked on suspicion of vehicle theft, felony evading and kidnapping.
Because the pursuit intervention resulted in significant injuries, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division has taken over the case, as required by department policy.
Officials have not released further details about the suspect’s injuries, the victim’s condition, or whether additional charges may be filed.
