LOS ANGELES, CA – Los Angeles police officers chased a BMW believed to have been used in a burglary through downtown Los Angeles early Tuesday, a pursuit that ended near the interchange of the 110 and 5 freeways in the Cypress Park area, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
An LAPD spokesperson confirmed that officers located the vehicle shortly before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, and engaged in a pursuit. The chase ended at about 5 a.m., according to initial reports.
The BMW was later moved to a parking lot at Figueroa Street and West Avenue 26, where officers searched it. What appeared to be merchandise boxes were visible in its open trunk.
Burglary report led officers to the BMW
The pursuit grew out of a burglary report that sent officers searching for the BMW early Tuesday. Police believed the car had been used in the crime.
The spokesperson said the department located the suspect vehicle in connection with a burglary investigation. The LAPD had not released details of the burglary, including where it happened.
Officers found the BMW shortly before 4:30 a.m., and the pursuit began at that point. The chase lasted until about 5 a.m., roughly half an hour later.
Chase ran through downtown and ended near the freeway interchange
The pursuit went through downtown Los Angeles before it reached the area where the 110 and 5 freeways meet. The chase ended near that interchange in Cypress Park, a neighborhood in northeast Los Angeles.
Cypress Park is covered by the LAPD’s Northeast Division, which operates from the Northeast Community Police Station in the department’s Central Bureau.
BMW searched in a Figueroa Street parking lot
After the pursuit ended, officers moved the BMW to a nearby parking lot at Figueroa Street and West Avenue 26 for further investigation. Officers searched the car there.
The trunk was open during the search, and what appeared to be merchandise boxes were visible inside. The LAPD had not said what the boxes contained or whether they were connected to the burglary under investigation.
Separate pursuit earlier the same morning
Another LAPD pursuit took place in the same part of the city a few hours earlier. The department said suspects in three vehicles drove through a gate at a downtown dispensary in the 600 block of Imperial Street around 1 a.m. Tuesday.
That chase ended near Central Avenue and 49th Street, and three suspects were taken into custody, according to the LAPD. There is no indication in the available information that the dispensary case and the BMW pursuit are connected.
How LAPD pursuits are governed
The department publishes a page of facts on pursuits that explains its vehicle pursuit policy. That policy is the framework officers work under when a suspect vehicle does not stop.
The LAPD Training Division also runs a Pursuit Review Unit, which has its own page on the department’s website. The department had not said whether Tuesday’s chase has been referred to that unit.
Where burglary records are published
Burglary reports entered into the LAPD’s Records Management System appear in the LAPD NIBRS Offenses Dataset on the City of Los Angeles open data portal. According to the dataset’s listing, the system was implemented March 7, 2024, and locations are given to the hundred block.
The listing shows the dataset was last updated Oct. 13, 2026, so it does not yet include any report from Tuesday’s investigation.
Investigation remains active
The LAPD had not said whether anyone was arrested when the pursuit ended or whether a suspect ran from the car on foot. The department had not issued a news release about the chase.
Anyone with information about the burglary or the pursuit is asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
