LOS ANGELES, CA – A man accused of threatening drivers and striking occupied vehicles with a baseball bat was fatally shot by Los Angeles police Wednesday evening, authorities said.
Officers were first called around 6:25 p.m. to an assault with a deadly weapon report near Normandie Avenue and Washington Boulevard in the Harvard Heights area, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police said the caller reported that a man armed with a baseball bat was threatening passersby and hitting multiple occupied vehicles.
When officers arrived, they encountered the suspect on Normandie Avenue beneath the 10 Freeway, still armed with the bat, authorities said.
An officer-involved shooting then occurred.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was struck by gunfire and transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the baseball bat was recovered at the scene and will be booked as evidence.
No officers or community members were injured during the incident, according to authorities.
Information reviewed by Street People indicates police have not released additional details about what happened in the moments before officers opened fire.
The area near the Normandie Avenue underpass at the 10 Freeway remained impacted for several hours while investigators processed the scene.
The shooting remains under investigation.
