LOS ANGELES, CA – A robbery suspect crashed a vehicle into a backyard in South Los Angeles early Wednesday morning after leading police on a pursuit, authorities said.
Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department were in pursuit of a white Kia driven by a robbery suspect when the vehicle lost control and overturned, landing in the backyard of a home near 84th Street and Flower Place in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood. Officials said the impact damaged parked vehicles in the driveway.
During the chase, the suspect allegedly threw an AR-15 rifle wrapped in plastic onto the road before crashing. Following the collision, he fled on foot, but an LAPD helicopter quickly located him, and officers took him into custody. The suspect was transported to a hospital for evaluation and will be booked once released, police said.
No other injuries were reported, though officials have not disclosed the extent of any potential injuries to the suspect. Investigators have not specified how fast the vehicle was traveling at the time of the crash.
Authorities said the suspect will face multiple charges, though details regarding the specific robbery incident that led to the pursuit have not been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
