LOS ANGELES, CA – A man was shot and killed inside a grocery store in South Los Angeles on Tuesday night, authorities said, as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at Superior Grocers, located near 91st and Figueroa streets in the Vermont Vista neighborhood, at approximately 8:15 p.m. When they arrived, they discovered a 47-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds inside the store.
Witnesses told investigators that two suspects had chased the victim into the store before opening fire. Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived but pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the victim as Herlyn Barrientos Funez. Authorities have not provided further details about what led to the shooting but said they believe the incident may have been gang-related. No arrests have been made, and officials have not released descriptions of the suspects.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
