LOS ANGELES, CA – Two people were killed Friday night in a three-vehicle crash in Victorville after authorities said two vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed encountered another vehicle attempting to turn onto Ridgecrest Road.
The collision was reported around 8:30 p.m. near Ridgecrest Road and Elmwood Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Investigators said two vehicles were traveling northbound on Ridgecrest Road at a high rate of speed when an Acura entered from Elmwood Drive.
The Acura attempted to make a left turn in front of the approaching vehicles, according to authorities.
The maneuver was followed by a collision involving all three vehicles.
Two people were killed in the crash.
Authorities have not released the identities, ages or cities of residence of those who died.
Officials also had not immediately disclosed which vehicles the two victims were occupying.
Information reviewed by Street People indicates investigators are still working to establish the exact sequence of events leading to the collision, including the speeds of the vehicles and the timing of the Acura’s turn.
No information was immediately available about whether anyone else was injured.
Authorities have also not said whether any additional occupants were transported to a hospital or treated at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the reported high-speed travel remain under investigation.
CHP has not publicly said whether investigators believe the two northbound vehicles were traveling together, racing, or otherwise connected before the crash.
Likewise, authorities have not announced whether alcohol, drugs, distraction or another form of impairment is suspected in connection with any of the drivers.
Those factors are among the questions that can be examined during a fatal collision investigation, but no such cause has been established in this case based on the information currently available.
The crash occurred on Ridgecrest Road, a surface roadway in Victorville, rather than on a freeway.
The California Highway Patrol’s Victorville Area office is handling inquiries connected to the collision and serves the Victorville region as part of CHP’s Inland Division. The office is located on Amargosa Road and can be reached at 760-241-1186.
The CHP Inland Division covers a vast portion of inland Southern California and is responsible for traffic enforcement and roadway safety operations across a geographically large area that includes the High Desert.
For investigators in Victorville, the focus now is on reconstructing the moments before impact.
That process can include examining vehicle damage, roadway evidence, witness statements and any available video from nearby cameras or passing motorists.
Authorities have not said whether surveillance footage or dashcam video has been obtained in this case.
They also have not released information about whether skid marks, debris patterns or other roadway evidence helped investigators reach the preliminary conclusion that two of the vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed.
The description released so far establishes only the broad sequence: two vehicles were heading north on Ridgecrest Road, an Acura attempted to turn left from Elmwood Drive, and the resulting collision involved all three vehicles.
Exactly how much time the drivers had to react remains unclear.
The condition of the roadway and visibility at the time of the crash also have not been identified as contributing factors.
No arrests or citations were announced.
Because the investigation is still active, authorities may release additional details after investigators complete more of the reconstruction and notifications to the victims’ families.
The identities of those killed are expected to remain withheld until the appropriate notification process is completed.
CHP is asking anyone who witnessed the collision, saw the vehicles shortly before the crash or has video that could assist investigators to come forward.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Victorville CHP office at 760-241-1186.
The investigation remains ongoing.
