LOS ANGELES, CA — A woman was stopped by private security after allegedly entering the Malibu property of former Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, late Sept. 12, according to information provided by authorities.

The woman was intercepted before she reached the main residence, and responding deputies were called to the property following the reported trespassing incident.

Harris and Emhoff were not at the home at the time, according to the information provided for the incident. No arrests were made.

Security stopped woman before she reached residence

The incident was reported at about 10:30 p.m. after onsite security personnel observed an individual entering the property without authorization.

Security guards intervened and stopped the woman outside the main house while contacting local authorities for assistance.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were subsequently dispatched to the property following the report of trespassing.

The incident did not result in an arrest, and authorities have not publicly identified the woman involved.

The exact circumstances surrounding how she entered the property’s outer grounds also have not been disclosed.

Malibu has a formal process for residential trespassing

The reported incident comes as Malibu maintains specific procedures for property owners dealing with trespassing on private residential property.

According to the City of Malibu’s public safety information, owners of residences and businesses can authorize the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to remove or arrest people trespassing on their property by filing a Letter of Agency with the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.

The city’s Letter of Agency program requires participating residential property owners to keep an updated authorization on file with the Sheriff’s Department. The city’s guidelines also state that residential properties participating in the program must have signage prohibiting trespassing except for owners, tenants or invited guests.

The program is designed to give deputies additional authority to address trespassing complaints on private property when the applicable requirements have been met.

That does not establish whether the property involved in the Sept. 12 incident was enrolled in the program, and authorities have not publicly described the specific security arrangements at Harris and Emhoff’s residence.

No arrests reported

Although deputies responded to the reported trespassing, authorities confirmed that no arrest was made.

Officials have not explained why the woman was allowed to leave the property without being arrested or cited, and no criminal charges related to the incident were publicly announced.

Authorities also have not released the woman’s name.

There was no indication in the information provided that Harris, Emhoff or anyone else at the residence was injured during the incident.

Harris and Emhoff were away

Harris and Emhoff were not at the Malibu property when the woman was intercepted, according to authorities.

The circumstances surrounding the reported entry remain limited. Officials have not publicly said whether the woman attempted to enter the residence itself, how long she remained on the property or whether she had any previous connection to the couple.

A motive has also not been disclosed.

The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station provides law-enforcement services for Malibu and surrounding unincorporated areas. The City of Malibu identifies the Sheriff’s Department as the primary law-enforcement agency serving the community.

For now, the incident remains a reported trespassing case in which private security intervened before the individual reached the main residence. No arrests were made, and authorities have not released additional details about the woman’s identity or possible motive.
