LOS ANGELES, CA — A two-vehicle collision in Encino Saturday morning left one woman dead and four other people hospitalized, according to information provided by the Los Angeles Fire Department and Los Angeles Police Department.
The crash was reported shortly after 11:15 a.m. near Densmore Avenue and Ventura Boulevard, where emergency crews responded to reports of a traffic collision involving two vehicles.
Firefighters and paramedics evaluated a total of six people at the scene. Five patients required transportation to local hospitals for additional medical treatment, according to the information provided for the incident.
One of those patients, a woman, later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Four other people remained hospitalized following the collision. Authorities had not publicly released their identities or detailed their medical conditions.
LAPD investigating cause of crash
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The department’s traffic investigators handle serious and fatal collisions throughout Los Angeles, including cases requiring additional investigation into how vehicles collided and whether violations of traffic laws contributed to the incident. LAPD maintains a dedicated Traffic Detail and its Valley personnel have previously investigated serious collisions in the Encino area.
At this stage, authorities have not publicly identified the specific circumstances that caused the two vehicles to collide.
It was also not immediately clear whether speed, driver behavior, traffic violations, road conditions or another factor played a role.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the collision and provided emergency medical assistance to those involved. LAFD routinely works alongside LAPD at serious traffic collisions when injured people require medical evaluation or transportation.
Five people taken to hospitals
The six people involved in the crash were assessed by emergency personnel after firefighters arrived at the intersection.
Five people were transported to area hospitals, according to the information provided by authorities. One woman later died from her injuries.
Four other people remained hospitalized, although officials had not released information about whether their injuries were considered serious, critical or stable.
The identity of the woman who died had also not been publicly released.
Authorities commonly withhold the identities of crash victims while relatives are being notified, and additional information can be released later as the investigation progresses.
Investigation remains ongoing
The fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Densmore Avenue and Ventura Boulevard, an area where LAPD traffic investigators have previously responded to serious crashes.
However, authorities have not indicated that the location itself contributed to Saturday’s collision.
Investigators will determine how the two vehicles were traveling before the impact and what circumstances immediately preceded the crash.
