LOS ANGELES, CA – A man was arrested during a routine traffic stop in Irvine after officers discovered he was in possession of counterfeit $100 bills, a fake driver’s license, and stolen property, authorities said Monday.
The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Dayner Chacon Lara of Santa Ana, was pulled over over the weekend by Irvine police officers. When asked for identification, Lara allegedly provided a fraudulent driver’s license. Upon further investigation, officers determined his real identity and found that he did not have a valid driver’s license.
A search of Lara’s vehicle uncovered counterfeit currency, a stolen license plate, and mail belonging to other individuals, police said. Investigators did not specify how many fake bills were recovered or whether they had been used in recent transactions.
Lara was taken into custody and booked on multiple charges, including possession of stolen property and possessing a deceptive government ID. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine whether he may be linked to other crimes involving fraud or identity theft.
Law enforcement officials have urged residents to remain cautious when handling cash and to report any suspicious transactions. Counterfeit currency remains a persistent issue, with fake bills often being passed at retail establishments and through online sales.
Authorities did not say whether additional suspects were involved or if further arrests were expected. Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact the Irvine Police Department.
