LOS ANGELES, CA – A man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing his wife in front of their teenage son following a religious gathering in Encino earlier this month.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that 64-year-old Sean Farzan has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of felony child abuse under circumstances likely to cause great bodily injury or death. He is being held without bail and, if convicted, faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Prosecutors said the fatal shooting occurred on February 5 as 54-year-old Linda Farzan left a religious meeting with the couple’s teenage son. Authorities allege that Sean Farzan confronted her before opening fire. He fled the scene on foot but was arrested nearby.
Officials said the couple was in the middle of a divorce, though they did not provide further details on any prior history of domestic disputes.
“This was a tragic and deeply disturbing shooting that took place in front of a child,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said in a statement. “No family should ever have to endure such a tragedy. We will do everything in our power to ensure that the person responsible is held fully accountable for this senseless and brutal crime. We will continue to support the victim’s loved ones as this case moves forward.”
Farzan remains in custody as the case proceeds. Prosecutors have not indicated whether they will seek additional charges.
