LOS ANGELES, CA – Police are searching for the driver involved in a violent hit-and-run crash that left a man critically injured in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. Authorities released surveillance footage of the incident this week in hopes of identifying the suspect or the vehicle involved.
The crash occurred just before 9 p.m. on February 5 near the intersection of 1st Street and Fresno Street. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a 49-year-old man was crossing the street when he was struck from behind by a silver SUV. Investigators believe the vehicle is a silver 1999–2004 Honda Odyssey.
The collision was captured by a nearby security camera. In the video, the minivan can be seen speeding down 1st Street before hitting the pedestrian, sending him airborne. The vehicle does not stop, continuing eastbound without rendering aid or slowing down.
The victim was transported to a local hospital by paramedics. As of Wednesday, more than three weeks after the crash, he remains in critical condition.
The LAPD released the footage on March 12, urging anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle to come forward. Investigators say identifying details such as damage to the front of the vehicle or possible surveillance footage from nearby businesses may help locate the suspect.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information about the vehicle to contact Central Traffic Division detectives at 213-486-0760. Anonymous tips may be submitted through standard reporting channels.
The case adds to a rising number of hit-and-run incidents across Los Angeles, where victims are often left without aid as police work to trace unregistered or untraceable vehicles. LAPD officials say video evidence has become a crucial tool in tracking suspects, particularly in densely populated areas like Boyle Heights.
