LOS ANGELES, CA – Heavy rainstorms that battered Southern California on Thursday night caused widespread flooding, mudslides, and infrastructure damage, including the collapse of a grocery store roof in Azusa.
The incident occurred at a Smart & Final location on Foothill Boulevard, where torrential rain overwhelmed the structure, leading to a massive hole in the roof. Water poured into the store, soaking aisles and drenching merchandise. The full extent of the damage was not immediately clear.
Video footage captured from inside the store showed water cascading from the ceiling, with debris scattered across the floor. Outside, heavy rain continued to fall, and the parking lot appeared nearly flooded.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed that emergency crews responded to reports of flooding at the store, but no injuries were reported. Authorities did not immediately specify whether structural weaknesses or excessive water buildup contributed to the collapse.
Southern California has been hit with intense storms this week, bringing several inches of rain to the region. Officials have issued warnings for potential mudslides and flash flooding, particularly in burn scar areas. The storm system, one of the strongest of the season, is expected to weaken over the weekend.
