LOS ANGELES, CA – A high-speed pursuit of an alleged wrong-way driver ended in a devastating two-vehicle crash late Saturday night, resulting in the death of an innocent bystander and leaving multiple others critically injured, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident began shortly after 11 p.m. near the intersection of Eastern and Florence avenues when officers attempted to stop a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction. The driver refused to comply, leading authorities on a 15-minute chase through the area. The pursuit came to a tragic end at approximately 11:14 p.m. when the suspect’s vehicle collided with another car at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Randolph Street.
The crash claimed the life of an individual who was sitting on a bench at the time of the collision. A pedestrian in a crosswalk was also critically injured and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Two occupants inside the suspect’s vehicle sustained extensive injuries and were hospitalized, while the driver was treated for injuries before being taken into custody.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics, were dispatched to the scene to assist the injured and clear the wreckage. Authorities have not yet released details about the conditions or number of occupants in the other vehicle involved in the crash. It remains unclear whether two individuals who suffered minor injuries were transported to a hospital.
