LOS ANGELES, CA – Authorities are searching for a suspect who allegedly hurled rocks at passing vehicles on two major Los Angeles freeways, injuring at least one driver, the California Highway Patrol said Friday.
The incident occurred late Thursday night when officers responded to reports of a vehicle struck by a large object at the westbound 10 Freeway and southbound 110 Freeway interchange. Upon arrival at 11:40 p.m., officers found the injured driver inside a Ford Ranger truck. The motorist was transported to a hospital by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics, though their condition remains unknown.
Video from the scene showed what appeared to be a sizable rock or piece of concrete on the driver’s-side floor mat. Investigators believe the object was thrown from the right shoulder of the northbound 110 Freeway, near Adams Boulevard and the 10 Freeway.
CHP officials said they are also investigating at least two additional reports of vehicles struck by rocks in the same area. Officers suspect the incidents are related, though they have not confirmed a clear pattern or motive.
Gabriel Pabon, a driver who was also targeted, described the moment his vehicle was struck while traveling northbound on the 110 Freeway. He initially thought he had hit debris but soon realized that someone had intentionally thrown a rock at his car.
“I saw a shadowy figure on the right shoulder,” Pabon said. “It was a male with a hoodie over his head. He wasn’t wearing the jacket, but the hoodie was hanging back like a cape.”
Pabon said he immediately reported the incident to authorities.
The California Highway Patrol’s Central Los Angeles division is continuing its investigation. Officers were seen searching nearby overpasses and freeway shoulders for the suspect, though no description beyond what witnesses have reported has been confirmed.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the CHP Central Division at 559-603-7740.
