LOS ANGELES, CA – A street takeover in Carson turned deadly early Sunday after gunfire erupted in the crowd, leaving one person dead and six others wounded, according to authorities.
Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded at approximately 3 a.m. on June 28 to the intersection of Charles Willard Street and Harmon Avenue following reports of a shooting.
When deputies arrived, they found three men suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced one of the victims, 22-year-old Patrick Bell, dead at the scene. The two other victims were transported for medical treatment.
SP obtained details indicating that investigators later identified four additional victims who had already transported themselves to nearby hospitals before law enforcement arrived. In total, seven people were shot during the incident.
Authorities confirmed the shooting occurred in the aftermath of a street takeover at the intersection, a form of illegal gathering where drivers perform stunts such as burnouts and drifting while crowds gather nearby. These events have increasingly drawn law enforcement scrutiny across Southern California due to escalating violence and public safety concerns.
SP found out that two of the surviving victims remain in critical condition, underscoring the severity of the attack.
Evidence collected at the scene suggests there were at least two shooters involved. Investigators believe more than 20 rounds were fired during the exchange, pointing to a chaotic and rapidly escalating confrontation.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities have not announced any arrests. Detectives are continuing to review evidence and determine whether the shooting stemmed from a dispute connected to the street takeover or another altercation.
Street takeovers throughout California have increasingly become hotspots for violence, with law enforcement agencies reporting a rise in shootings, assaults, and dangerous reckless driving incidents at these gatherings. Officials say the combination of large crowds, blocked intersections, and high-adrenaline environments often creates volatile conditions.
The investigation remains ongoing, and witnesses with information are urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
