Tire-Slashing Incident Escalates to Shooting
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Three individuals were arrested following a string of car tire slashings and an attempted shooting involving two witnesses in Thousand Oaks. According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred in the early hours of October 6 on Chiquita Lane, where multiple vehicle tires were slashed.
Suspects Fire Shots at Good Samaritans
After witnessing the vandalism, two bystanders attempted to follow the suspects, who were seen driving a white vehicle. As the suspects made several U-turns in the area, they eventually confronted the witnesses and fired shots at their vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Arrests and Charges
On October 22, officials apprehended three suspects—Jimmy Cruz, Layla Hamideh, and Michael Fay. Authorities discovered evidence at Cruz’s residence, including a police radio scanner, leading to his arrest on charges of attempted murder, felony vandalism, and conspiracy. Hamideh was arrested during a traffic stop; officers found a ghost gun accessible to children in her vehicle, resulting in additional charges of child endangerment. Fay was detained on charges of felony vandalism and conspiracy.
The case remains under investigation as officials analyze further evidence related to the crimes.
