Fire Breaks Out in Westlake Apartment Building
A fire erupted in a four-story apartment building on Sunday morning in Los Angeles’s Westlake neighborhood, forcing a resident to jump from the second floor to escape. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to the blaze at 140 South Reno Street, near Beverly Boulevard, just before 11:30 a.m.
Intense Flames and Smoke Prompt Swift Escape
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke rising from the building’s roof, with flames that appeared to have started in a second-floor hallway. A video posted on the Citizen App captured a thick plume of smoke as onlookers gathered to observe the fire, which extended from the second to the third floor.
Injuries and Investigation Underway
The individual who jumped to escape the fire is undergoing medical assessment, with their current condition unknown. LAFD confirmed that multiple apartment units were affected, though the exact number of displaced residents has not yet been determined. Arson investigators are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
