LOS ANGELES, CA – Firefighters swiftly contained a small brush fire that ignited near Hansen Canyon Dam in the northeastern San Fernando Valley on Tuesday evening, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

The blaze, which started close to an apartment complex along Foothill Boulevard, was first reported at approximately 5 p.m. By 5:20 p.m., it had grown to roughly half an acre in size, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Ground crews quickly arrived at the scene, effectively stopping the flames from extending to a carport adjacent to the apartment complex. Sky footage showed firefighters using hoses to douse the flames as thick smoke billowed into the air. No evacuations were ordered, and the fire was brought under control before it could cause any damage to the apartment buildings or surrounding properties.

LAFD spokesperson Margaret Stewart confirmed that no injuries were reported in connection with the fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

This latest brush fire comes at a time when firefighters across Los Angeles County are on high alert due to ongoing Santa Ana wind conditions. The elevated fire weather, combined with dry brush and vegetation, has created a tinderbox environment across the region, with officials warning that any new ignitions could rapidly spread.

The heightened alert follows a week of devastation caused by the Palisades and Eaton wildfires, which ravaged parts of Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Altadena, and Pasadena. Combined, those fires destroyed more than 15,000 structures and displaced tens of thousands of residents.

While Tuesday’s blaze was minor in comparison, it underscores the ongoing risk posed by Southern California’s fire-prone conditions, particularly during the late-season Santa Ana winds. Fire officials continue to urge residents to remain vigilant, clear brush from their properties, and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately.

As Southern California braces for more wind-driven fire weather in the coming days, firefighting resources across the region remain stretched thin. However, the rapid containment of the Hansen Canyon fire demonstrates the efficiency and dedication of local fire crews in responding to new threats amid an already challenging wildfire season.
