LOS ANGELES, CA – Firefighters and utility crews responded Friday afternoon after a water main ruptured in Hollywood, sending water into nearby streets just days after a major break caused extensive damage in West Hollywood.
The latest rupture was reported around 3 p.m. on Romaine Street at North Wilton Place, near Paramount Studios and about two blocks east of Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
Video shared on the Citizen app showed water spilling into the roadway and rushing along gutters as crews worked to control the flooding.
The Los Angeles Fire Department blocked off Romaine Street while utility workers moved to shut off the water and assess the damaged line.
No injuries were immediately reported. Officials also said there were no initial reports of property damage tied to the rupture.
Information reviewed by Street People indicates the break occurred several miles east of the site of last week’s major water main rupture at Sunset Boulevard and Holloway Drive in West Hollywood.
That earlier break sent a large volume of water through the area, swept away vehicles, flooded buildings and created a massive sinkhole that forced an extended repair operation and road closures.
It was not immediately clear what caused Friday’s Hollywood water main break, how many customers were affected, or how long repairs would take.
The incident remains under assessment by utility crews.
