LOS ANGELES, CA – The Hotel Clark, an 11-story Beaux-Arts building at 426 S. Hill St. in downtown Los Angeles that had been closed to paying guests for more than 30 years, has begun reopening, and its restaurant held its official grand opening Oct. 15.
The hotel, built in 1914, began a soft opening in mid-September. As of about Oct. 21, roughly 120 rooms were ready for guests and about 100 people were employed there.
The building is owned by the New York-based Chetrit Group and managed by OTH Hotels & Resorts. Its general manager is Adrienne Craig, according to initial reports.
Soft opening began in mid-September
The hotel started taking guests in a phased soft opening instead of opening all of its rooms at once. That approach is why only part of the building is currently available to book.
The Hotel Clark now has about 348 guest rooms, down from the 555 it had when it was built. Rates start at around $200 a night.
The owners plan to bring more rooms online in the coming weeks. Staffing is also growing: about 100 people work at the hotel, and about 200 are expected.
Votana holds grand opening Oct. 15
The hotel’s restaurant, Votana, held its official grand opening Oct. 15. It serves coastal Mediterranean cuisine under Executive Chef Gio Koletty.
The ground floor also has a lobby lounge and a bourbon-and-rye cocktail bar called Clubhouse at Clark. A sports bar is planned to open by Super Bowl Sunday.
Pool, fitness center and event space
The hotel has a courtyard pool measuring about 17 by 29 feet, with a poolside bar. It also has a fitness center and a game room.
The building includes more than 18,000 square feet of meeting and event space. A ballroom with a capacity of 600 people is still being completed.
The hotel sits on Hill Street across from Biddy Mason Park, between Grand Central Market and the Pershing Square area of downtown. The Metro B and D Lines’ Pershing Square station is one block away.
Hotel operates without a union
The Hotel Clark is operating as a non-union hotel. Hotels of its size in the city fall under the Citywide Hotel Worker Minimum Wage Ordinance, which the City of Los Angeles Office of Wage Standards explains in a notice revised May 26, 2026.
Office of Wage Standards materials list the rate as $25 an hour from July 1, 2026, for covered workers at hotels with 60 or more guest rooms. The office also publishes a 2026 memo on the health benefit payment rate under the same ordinance.
Owner points to Olympics and downtown recovery
A representative of the owner said the timing is tied to the city’s outlook. “We have the Olympics,” the representative said. “Downtown is starting to move again. I’m very, very confident that downtown is going to get back on its feet.”
Los Angeles is set to host the 2028 Olympic Games. No city, county or state agency has issued a release or statement about the Hotel Clark’s reopening.
Trinity Auditorium planned before 2028 Games
The Chetrit Group’s other downtown property is the Trinity Auditorium building on Grand Avenue, another 1914 Beaux-Arts building. It has about 180 guest rooms and a performance space with about 1,800 seats.
The owners plan to open that property before the 2028 Olympics. No opening date has been announced.
More rooms and venues still to open
The Hotel Clark remains in a phased opening, with about 120 of its roughly 348 rooms ready as of Oct. 21. The ballroom is still being finished, the sports bar is due by Super Bowl Sunday, and the hotel expects to double its staff to about 200.
