LOS ANGELES, CA – A high-speed pursuit of a domestic violence and arson suspect ended in tragedy Monday night when the suspect’s vehicle collided with another car, killing a young woman and injuring multiple others in Orange County.
The pursuit began around 10 p.m. when officers from the Fountain Valley Police Department located a white Dodge Ram pickup truck linked to a suspect wanted in connection with a domestic violence and arson case earlier in the evening. The suspect, later identified as 43-year-old Timothy Bradford Cole of Huntington Beach, had been under investigation for an incident in the 18000 block of Arches Court.
Officers spotted the vehicle near the 17900 block of Brookhurst Street and initiated a chase. The pursuit, which lasted less than a minute and covered under a mile, came to a violent conclusion at the intersection of Ellis Avenue and Magnolia Street when the Dodge Ram ran a red light and struck a white BMW X3, causing the truck to roll over.
The collision left a 25-year-old Huntington Beach woman, a passenger in the BMW, critically injured. She was pronounced dead en route to the hospital. Two other occupants of the BMW were transported to a local trauma center, one in critical condition and the other listed as stable.
Cole was also taken to a trauma center in Long Beach with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities confirmed his arrest at the scene. Charges against him are pending, with investigators expected to pursue counts related to the domestic violence and arson case as well as vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving.
Video footage from nearby traffic cameras is being reviewed as part of the investigation, police said. The BMW’s passengers were reportedly following all traffic laws when their vehicle was struck by the suspect’s speeding truck.
The crash highlights the risks involved in high-speed pursuits and has prompted renewed discussions about balancing public safety with law enforcement efforts to apprehend suspects.
Fountain Valley police are urging witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to contact their department at 714-593-4485 as the investigation continues.
