LOS ANGELES, CA – A 34-year-old man from Panorama City has been charged with murder following the death of his girlfriend, who was thrown from his car during what authorities described as a violent domestic dispute.
The Los Angeles Police Department announced the arrest of Edgar Gutierrez on Tuesday, one day after his girlfriend succumbed to severe head trauma sustained in the incident.
According to investigators, the altercation began on Saturday afternoon in the North Hollywood area. The couple, who had been together for two years, reportedly engaged in an argument outside a residence.
Police said that during the confrontation, Gutierrez entered his car and attempted to leave the scene. His girlfriend, whose name has not yet been released, grabbed onto the vehicle as he drove away.
Authorities stated that Gutierrez responded by driving at unsafe speeds and making sharp turns through narrow residential streets in an apparent attempt to dislodge her from the vehicle.
As the suspect continued his maneuvers, the woman was eventually thrown from the car and struck the pavement, suffering fatal injuries, police said.
Gutierrez allegedly fled the scene after the incident and was later arrested the following afternoon by Burbank police officers. He was booked into the LAPD Valley Jail in Van Nuys, initially facing charges of attempted murder.
Following the victim’s death at a local hospital on Monday, the charges were upgraded to murder.
Gutierrez is currently being held on $1 million bail, authorities confirmed. His court date has not yet been scheduled, and it remains unclear if he has retained legal counsel.
The LAPD has urged anyone with information about the case to contact homicide detectives from the Operations Valley Bureau at 818-374-9550. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling 800-222-8477 or visiting lacrimestoppers.org.
The victim’s identity has not been released, pending notification of her family.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to gather evidence and review witness statements related to the fatal incident.
