Early Morning Incident Triggers Road Closures and Delays
LOS ANGELES — A water main break led to the closure of southbound lanes on the 101 Freeway in Boyle Heights early Wednesday, disrupting morning traffic. The break occurred at around 1:30 a.m. at Boyle Avenue and Second Street near the Fourth Street exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Prolonged Closures for Repair Efforts
Authorities initially aimed to reopen the lanes by 9 a.m., but repair delays extended the closure until approximately 1 p.m., when the SigAlert was officially lifted. Crews spent hours clearing the flooded lanes, which caused significant traffic congestion from downtown Los Angeles.
Impact on Residences and Infrastructure
The flooding also affected 47 nearby residences, leading to sidewalk and street damage. California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews worked together to address the aftermath of the break, with further repairs to local infrastructure expected in the coming days.
