LOS ANGELES, CA – A black Nissan sedan collided with an LA Metro train on the A Line in South Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon, sending the driver to the hospital and disrupting train service in the area.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Nadeau Street and Graham Avenue in the Florence-Graham neighborhood, where the A Line operates on tracks not separated from vehicle traffic.
According to Metro officials, the driver broke through a crossing gate and struck the northbound train. Video footage showed the heavily damaged sedan disabled on one set of tracks while the train remained stopped on another.
Emergency crews responded quickly to assess the scene, and Metro staff evacuated passengers from the train as a precaution. Metro confirmed that no injuries were reported among train passengers.
The driver of the sedan was transported to a local hospital, though their condition has not been disclosed.
The collision prompted a temporary closure of the intersection and a suspension of Metro train service between the Slauson and Firestone stations. Bus shuttles were initially provided, but by 1 p.m., Metro announced that trains were sharing the Long Beach-bound track to resume service.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Metro officials used the incident as an opportunity to remind drivers about safety at rail crossings, urging the public to pay attention to crossing gates and warning signals to prevent similar accidents. While much of the Metro system is separated from vehicle traffic, several lines still operate at street level.
