A Valley Glen homeowner, Mike Martirosyan, had a terrifying encounter early Thursday morning when he confronted a squatter inside his under-construction property. The incident marks the second time Martirosyan has faced the same intruder, sparking concerns for his safety and frustrations over the legal system’s handling of the situation.
Encounter Inside the Home
Martirosyan was at the property to move some trash when he noticed a light on the second floor. Upon investigating, he discovered 35-year-old Tony Randal squatting in his home. Martirosyan, believing Randal had been there for several days, knocked on a door several times and demanded Randal open it. When Randal refused, Martirosyan threatened to break the door. Once the door opened, a struggle ensued, and Martirosyan had to wrestle Randal down the stairs and restrain him until police arrived.
Arrest and Immediate Release
Although Randal was arrested on the spot, he was soon released after being booked for trespassing, which is considered a misdemeanor. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, suspects charged with misdemeanors are typically cited and released unless they have outstanding warrants. This swift release has left Martirosyan feeling vulnerable, as this was not his first encounter with Randal. Just a month earlier, he had chased the man off his property but was told by police that no action could be taken because they did not witness the intrusion.
Ongoing Safety Concerns
The incident has left Martirosyan worried for his and his family’s safety. He expressed frustration over Randal’s release and the mess left behind in the home, highlighting the limitations in addressing repeat trespassers.
