LOS ANGELES, CA – A resident of the United Kingdom was killed late Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Hollywood Boulevard in a marked crosswalk, with Los Angeles police taking the driver into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The collision happened shortly before 11 p.m. on Oct. 4, 2026, in Hollywood, according to information provided by the Los Angeles Police Department. Investigators determined that a white Mazda was traveling westbound on Hollywood Boulevard when it struck the pedestrian.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not publicly released the person’s name, and the victim was identified only as a resident of the United Kingdom.
The U.S. Department of State was notified because of the victim’s status as a foreign resident, according to police information.
Driver remained at scene and was taken into custody
The driver involved in the crash remained at the location after the collision and was taken into custody by police.
Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash, according to the information released by authorities. The investigation remains ongoing, and the available information does not indicate that prosecutors have filed a criminal case against the driver at this stage.
The circumstances surrounding the collision, including the driver’s speed and the events immediately before the pedestrian was struck, remain subject to the investigation.
Crash occurred along heavily traveled Hollywood Boulevard
The fatal collision occurred on one of Los Angeles’ busiest pedestrian corridors. Hollywood Boulevard carries large numbers of people on foot, particularly around the central Hollywood tourist and entertainment areas.
The Los Angeles Department of Transportation has been working on safety improvements along Hollywood Boulevard because of the corridor’s history of serious crashes involving pedestrians and other road users.
LADOT’s Hollywood Boulevard Safety and Mobility Project was launched in 2023 with the stated goal of reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured in crashes along the boulevard. The project includes measures intended to reduce vehicle speeds, shorten pedestrian exposure while crossing and create additional separation between different road users.
The department has also identified Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Avenue among locations with significant numbers of pedestrian collisions involving people crossing in crosswalks in its Vision Zero safety analysis.
More recently, the city has continued developing additional safety improvements for the Hollywood area, including a second phase of the Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard projects. LADOT said those efforts are intended to improve crossings, traffic signal protection and overall safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.
For the latest information about the investigation, authorities are expected to provide additional details as detectives continue reviewing the circumstances of the crash.
The victim’s identity remains withheld pending notification procedures, while the driver remains under investigation in connection with the suspected DUI collision.
