LOS ANGELES, CA – A USC student has announced plans to press charges against a UCLA fan who allegedly slapped him during last month’s rivalry football game at the Rose Bowl. The Pasadena Police Department has confirmed an investigation into the incident.
The student, identified as Matthew Kim, recounted the altercation during the heated USC-UCLA matchup, describing how tensions escalated among fans. According to Kim, the individual accused of slapping him has been identified as Katherine Beck, a sophomore at UCLA who is a member of the university’s lacrosse club team.
Kim explained that he and other fans were exchanging lighthearted banter during the game when Beck allegedly became involved in the exchange.
“I saw her winding up and I was like, ‘There’s no way she’s about to hit me, right?'” Kim said, recalling his disbelief before the alleged slap occurred.
As the game progressed, Beck reportedly became more agitated. Kim believes her frustration peaked around halftime, leading to the confrontation.
“She got more aggravated as the game went along,” Kim said. “And I guess she had enough.”
Kim has stated his intent to file assault charges. Authorities in Pasadena are investigating, and Beck is reportedly seeking legal representation.
Efforts to reach Beck for comment have been unsuccessful. Her role as a sophomore on UCLA’s lacrosse club team was confirmed through the team’s website.
The incident highlights the intense emotions often surrounding the storied rivalry between USC and UCLA. Authorities are asking fans to maintain civility to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all attendees at future events.
Kim and witnesses involved in the altercation have pledged full cooperation with the ongoing police investigation.
