Two residents of Lucerne Valley were taken into custody following a shooting incident at a supermarket parking lot on Highway 18. The incident occurred around 4:52 p.m. on Friday, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
Details of the Incident
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of attempted murder at the Lucerne Valley Market. Investigators determined that the confrontation involved a man who was familiar with the suspects, Jaime Esparza, 44, and Amanda Miller, 41.
According to the sheriff’s department, Miller used a hammer to break the windows of the man’s truck while Esparza brandished a handgun and threatened the victim. In an effort to escape the situation, the man reversed his truck, crashing into the suspects’ pickup.
Shots Fired as Victim Escapes
As the victim attempted to drive away, Esparza allegedly fired a shot at the vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Following the incident, authorities arrested Esparza on charges of attempted murder, while Miller was charged with vandalism for damages exceeding $400.
Ongoing Investigation
Both suspects are currently being held at the High Desert Detention Center. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with additional information to contact Deputy K.
