LOS ANGELES, CA – Two men were killed late Thursday night after their vehicle crashed into construction equipment in Los Angeles’ Harbor City neighborhood, authorities said.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) reported that the fatal collision occurred around 10:30 p.m. near 1202 West Anaheim Street. Emergency responders arrived to find the wreckage of a vehicle that had collided with an excavator stationed at a construction site.
Both the driver and passenger, men believed to be in their 30s, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Their identities have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
Preliminary findings suggest that speed may have been a factor, with the driver possibly losing control of the vehicle before slamming into the heavy machinery.
Authorities stated that investigators are also working to determine whether alcohol or impairment contributed to the crash.
The incident site remained closed for several hours overnight as crews cleared the wreckage and investigators collected evidence.
No workers or bystanders were reported injured, and officials confirmed that the excavator was unoccupied at the time of impact.
Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has information about the incident to contact the Los Angeles Police Department’s Traffic Division at 310-726-7700.
