LOS ANGELES, CA – A quiet Mission Hills neighborhood was jolted into chaos early Monday morning when a truck crashed through the wall of a home and ended up in the backyard. The driver fled the scene, leaving behind a dog that had been inside the vehicle.
The crash occurred around 1:20 a.m. at a residence in the 11300 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard. Surveillance footage from at least three home security cameras captured the dramatic moment the truck barreled through the wall.
In the video, the sound of the collision is accompanied by the driver’s screams as the truck comes to a halt. A small dog can be seen darting out of the vehicle and running into a neighboring yard.
Police responding to the scene found the dog unharmed in a nearby yard. The driver, however, was nowhere to be found. Neighbors have since reported seeing a man limping through the area, knocking on doors and asking for the location of his truck.
“He was demanding to know where his truck was taken,” said Christina Gonzalez, a local resident who witnessed the man’s erratic behavior.
The crash is the latest in a series of similar incidents at the same property, according to the homeowner.
“They’ve crashed about six times through that wall already,” she said, noting that calls to city officials to address the issue have gone unanswered.
She added that the damage could have been far worse if not for the home’s fireplace. “If it wasn’t for the fireplace, it probably would have gone into the house.”
The block, which has seen repeated traffic accidents, has left residents frustrated and concerned about the lack of safety measures to prevent vehicles from careening into homes.
Crews were at the site Monday repairing the extensive damage to the wall and backyard. Workers said the man believed to be the driver approached them earlier, asking questions about the truck.
The homeowner contacted police after the man’s visit, but it remains unclear if he has been apprehended.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash and are working to locate the driver. The truck was towed from the scene, and officials are determining whether speed or intoxication may have played a role in the accident.
The incident has renewed calls from residents for the city to implement measures to prevent similar accidents. Neighbors have suggested adding barriers or speed reduction measures along the stretch of Laurel Canyon Boulevard.
“This could have been a lot worse,” said one neighbor. “We’ve been asking for action, but nothing has been done. How many more crashes need to happen before something changes?”
As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with information about the crash or the driver’s whereabouts to come forward.
Residents hope the latest incident will prompt city officials to take action and address what they say is a persistent safety hazard in their community.
