LOS ANGELES, CA – A 19-year-old man was killed and an 18-year-old injured in a shooting late Tuesday night inside a Ralphs grocery store in Sun Valley, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. at the store on Laurel Canyon Boulevard. Surveillance footage reviewed by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) revealed that a fight erupted between two groups of young men, during which one individual pulled out a gun and opened fire.
Two people were struck by gunfire and transported to a hospital. One of them, identified as 19-year-old Angelo Cedillo of Granada Hills, succumbed to his injuries. The other victim, an 18-year-old man whose identity has not been disclosed, is reported to be in stable condition.
An 18-year-old suspect, Jorge Armenta, was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder. He is being held on $2 million bail, police said.
The store was open at the time of the shooting, with both employees and customers present, though it was not crowded.
“Any time there’s a gun that goes off in a grocery store, there’s significant danger for everyone around,” said LAPD Lt. Guy Golan.
Authorities are now working to determine the circumstances that led to the altercation and subsequent shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
