LOS ANGELES, CA – A woman suspected of setting a fire outside a gym in Eagle Rock has been arrested on charges of arson, authorities said Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to reports of a trash fire near the Lako Boxing Club in the 4400 block of Eagle Rock Boulevard shortly before 5 a.m. on December 15. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which caused damage to the building’s exterior, but no injuries were reported.
Surveillance footage captured a woman allegedly igniting the fire outside the gym before fleeing the scene. Investigators released images of the suspect as part of an effort to identify her.
On December 19, Los Angeles Police Department officers recognized 48-year-old Marvella Salomon from a wanted flyer and arrested her in connection with the incident, authorities said.
Salomon faces multiple charges, including arson of a structure and arson of personal property. She is currently being held on $125,000 bail, according to officials.
Investigators have not disclosed a possible motive for the fire, and it remains unclear whether Salomon had any prior connection to the gym or its owners.
The Los Angeles Police Department and the Fire Department’s Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section are continuing to investigate the case to determine whether the suspect may have been involved in other incidents.
Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to contact LAPD’s Northeast Division detectives at (323) 561-3211. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visiting lacrimestoppers.org.
