Woman Fatally Injured on Santa Monica Beach
Santa Monica police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying several good Samaritans who tried to rescue a woman fatally struck by an SUV near the Santa Monica Pier on October 17. The victim, identified as 34-year-old Sherese Allen, was struck on the sand and tragically died from traumatic asphyxia at the scene.
Good Samaritans Attempted to Free Victim
According to police, multiple individuals heroically tried to dig Allen out from under the SUV before emergency services arrived. However, these individuals left the scene before officers could gather their statements. Santa Monica Police Department officials believe these witnesses may hold valuable information about the moments leading up to the incident.
Investigation Continues; Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
The SUV driver, 21-year-old Yuyang Sun, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving, and vehicular manslaughter. Authorities urge those who tried to assist Allen to contact Investigator Evan Raleigh or Sgt. Nick Krueger, as their accounts could be instrumental in understanding the full circumstances surrounding Allen’s death.
