LOS ANGELES, CA – A suspected road rage driver was taken into custody Tuesday morning after leading authorities on a high-speed pursuit across Los Angeles County, reaching speeds above 100 mph before officers forced the vehicle to a stop near Montebello.
Authorities said the incident began around 7:15 a.m. when investigators with the Santa Monica Police Department attempted to arrest the driver of a black Range Rover allegedly connected to a road rage incident from several weeks earlier.
The suspect fled, prompting Santa Monica police to request assistance from the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers picked up the pursuit on the southbound 405 Freeway near the 118 Freeway in Pacoima around 7:17 a.m., according to officials. The chase quickly moved through the San Fernando Valley and into central Los Angeles.
Aerial footage showed the Range Rover weaving through heavy morning traffic on the 101 Freeway as CHP units followed closely behind.
The suspect later exited into Koreatown, where the SUV was seen driving recklessly into oncoming lanes and speeding along Vermont Avenue before transitioning onto the eastbound 10 Freeway.
Information reviewed by Street People indicates the driver continued into the San Gabriel Valley at speeds topping 100 mph, narrowly avoiding multiple vehicles during the pursuit.
The chase ended shortly before 8 a.m. near San Gabriel Boulevard and Hill Drive, close to the Montebello border. Authorities said a CHP patrol vehicle rammed the SUV near the center median area, bringing the pursuit to an end.
Multiple officers then approached the Range Rover and took the driver into custody without further incident.
Despite several near-misses during the chase, officials said no collisions occurred and no injuries were reported.
Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity. Details about the original road rage incident involving Santa Monica police were not immediately available.
The investigation remains ongoing.
