LOS ANGELES, CA – Reported Part 1 crimes in West Hollywood fell nearly 11% from January through September compared with the same period last year, while shoplifting increased, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department report prepared by the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station.

The report, prepared Oct. 14, is scheduled for presentation at the West Hollywood Public Safety Commission’s regular meeting Monday, Oct. 26. It recorded 1,273 Part 1 crimes from January through September 2026, compared with 1,430 in the same nine months of 2025, a decrease of 10.98%.

The commission meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 6 p.m. at West Hollywood Park Council Chambers, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd., according to the City of West Hollywood’s commission page.

The Sheriff’s Department describes Part 1 crimes as the category of offenses it reports under FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines. According to initial reports, the station’s figures cover homicide, rape, assault, robbery, burglary, theft, vehicle theft and arson.

Shoplifting rises through September

Shoplifting was one of the few categories that moved in the opposite direction. The report recorded 180 shoplifting incidents through September, up from 149 in the same period last year, an increase of 20.81%.

Grand theft shoplifting more than doubled, from 26 cases to 54, a rise of 107.69%.

The increase had been building through the year. Through August, the station recorded 163 shoplifting cases, compared with 123 in the same period of 2025, a rise of 32.52%. Grand theft shoplifting through August stood at 51 cases, up from 23.

Robberies and burglaries decline

Robberies fell from 67 to 56 through September, a decrease of 16.42%. Burglaries dropped from 229 to 187, a decrease of 18.34%.

Business burglaries fell from 62 to 33 over the same period. Vehicle burglaries fell nearly 34%, from 153 to 101.

Theft from motor vehicles declined from 218 to 171 incidents. Auto thefts fell from 93 to 73.

September calls for service and arrests

The station logged 1,612 calls for service in September, down from 1,771 in September 2025.

Deputies made 222 arrests in September, compared with 131 in the same month a year earlier. Of the September arrests, 55 were felony arrests and 167 were misdemeanor arrests.

The report also covers location checks, entertainment venue checks, business checks, vacant-property checks and outreach efforts. It divides the city into three districts: the West District, west of La Cienega Boulevard; City Center, from La Cienega to Fairfax Avenue; and the East District, east of Fairfax.

What the Public Safety Commission does

The commission is a seven-member advisory body. Five members are appointed individually by councilmembers and two are appointed at large by the full City Council, and all serve two-year terms, according to the city’s board listing for the commission.

The city describes its role as evaluating and recommending “mechanisms involving public safety issues,” assisting the City Manager’s office and City Council in strengthening community response to emergencies, and making recommendations to the City Council on neighborhood livability and domestic violence prevention.

The same listing names Brandon J Blau as chair and Stephen Post as vice chair. The commission’s 2026 meeting schedule sets the dates of its regular meetings for the year.

Where to find crime data

The Sheriff’s Department publishes crime and arrest information on its website, including a statistics dashboard with 10 years plus the current year of Part 1 crime data for the areas the department serves. The page also offers two-year comparisons by department and patrol station, annual reports and hate crime reports. The department describes the monthly statistics as meeting the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program guidelines.

The City of West Hollywood separately publishes a year-to-date crime dataset on its open data portal.

Meeting is set for Oct. 26

The Public Safety Commission is scheduled to meet from 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at West Hollywood Park Council Chambers, according to the city’s calendar listing for the meeting.

The Sheriff’s Department and the city had not issued a news release on the report as of Thursday, and the figures remain subject to discussion by the commission when the report is presented.
