LOS ANGELES, CA – A man was fatally struck by two buses late Friday evening on West Century Boulevard near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in front of the LAX Marriott Hotel, a busy area frequented by travelers and hotel guests. According to preliminary reports, the pedestrian was attempting to cross the street when he was hit by a bus. Moments later, a second bus struck him.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene and transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has launched an investigation to determine the sequence of events leading to the fatal incident. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage from the area, including cameras positioned along West Century Boulevard, which is a key thoroughfare for vehicles accessing LAX and nearby hotels.
Traffic investigators also interviewed the drivers of both buses involved in the collision. It is unclear at this time if speed, visibility, or pedestrian error contributed to the tragedy. Neither driver has been cited or charged, pending the outcome of the investigation.
West Century Boulevard, a bustling road that runs adjacent to LAX, is heavily trafficked by airport shuttles, hotel buses, and private vehicles. Pedestrians in the area often face challenges due to limited crosswalks and the high volume of vehicles moving at varying speeds.
As the investigation continues, city officials may face mounting pressure to address concerns about pedestrian safety on one of Los Angeles’ busiest transportation corridors. Further updates are expected as authorities release additional findings in the case.
