LOS ANGELES, CA – One man was killed and another was injured early Sunday after a gunman approached a parked vehicle in Granada Hills and fired multiple shots into the car, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The shooting happened at about 1:45 a.m. on September 13, 2026, near Yarmouth Avenue and Ludlow Street, where officers from the LAPD’s Devonshire Area responded to a report of a shooting involving an ambulance.
When officers arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds inside a parked vehicle. The preliminary investigation indicates that both victims were inside the vehicle when the suspect approached on foot and opened fire.
Police said the gunman fired multiple rounds into the vehicle before leaving the area.
One victim pronounced dead at scene
The front passenger was identified by police as a 29-year-old Hispanic man. He suffered gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene after Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded.
The driver, a 25-year-old Caucasian man, was also struck by gunfire. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was listed in stable condition.
LAPD has not released the identities of either victim pending notification of next of kin. The department also has not released information indicating a possible motive for the shooting.
A third person was inside the vehicle when the shooting occurred. Police questioned that individual and later released the person.
No suspect description released
Investigators have not provided a description of the shooter.
According to LAPD, the suspect approached the parked vehicle on foot before firing at the people inside. Detectives are continuing to work to determine what led to the shooting and whether the victims and shooter knew each other.
At this stage, police have not publicly identified a vehicle associated with the suspect or announced an arrest.
The investigation is being handled by the department’s Robbery-Homicide Division, Valley Section. LAPD’s Valley Bureau Homicide unit is responsible for homicide and other non-natural-death investigations throughout the San Fernando Valley. The unit notes that homicide investigations can cross geographic divisions and may involve cooperation with other law-enforcement agencies when additional resources are needed.
Shooting occurred in Granada Hills
The location is within the area served by the LAPD’s Devonshire Community Police Station, which covers Granada Hills along with Chatsworth, Northridge and parts of several surrounding San Fernando Valley communities.
The early-morning timing and the fact that the victims were inside a parked vehicle are among the circumstances detectives are examining as they work to reconstruct the shooting.
Police have not said whether the vehicle was specifically targeted or whether the shooting was connected to another incident.
Medical examiner investigation
The death will also fall under the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, which investigates deaths involving suspected homicide and determines the cause and manner of death based on evidence collected during the investigation.
The department’s case-search system provides public information when a case is available for release. Medical Examiner information can change as examinations, laboratory testing and other investigative work are completed.
No additional information about the deceased victim’s identity or official cause and manner of death was available from the Medical Examiner in the information reviewed for this report.
