LOS ANGELES, CA – A man in Westminster was stabbed multiple times while shielding his daughter from an assailant armed with a knife in a courtyard over the weekend, police reported.
The attack occurred Sunday afternoon at approximately 4:45 p.m. in the 8200 block of Westminster Boulevard near the Civic Center.
Officers arriving on the scene found the man suffering from stab wounds to his hand and leg. According to a news release from the City of Westminster, the victim was walking through the courtyard with his young daughter when a woman, later identified as 43-year-old Victoria Vu, allegedly threw a bottle at them before advancing with a knife.
“Vu then attempted to stab the child, at which point her father shielded her,” the release stated. The man was stabbed in the process but managed to protect his daughter, who was unharmed.
Vu left the immediate area but remained in the courtyard, where officers arrested her without incident. She was still in possession of the knife at the time of her arrest.
Authorities described Vu as a former San Diego resident with no known address. She has been booked on suspicion of attempted murder, felony child endangerment, and possession of a switchblade.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, with officials calling it a “random act of violence.”
Details regarding the father’s current condition have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
