LOS ANGELES, CA – A man who sexually assaulted a UCLA exchange student in her on-campus residence in July has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, the university’s police department confirmed Friday.
Jeffery Stott Brewer Jr., 42, pleaded no contest to charges of felony sexual assault and residential burglary.
The assault occurred in the early hours of July 5 at UCLA’s Saxon Suites. According to investigators, Brewer loitered outside the residence hall around 1:30 a.m. and was let in by a student.
After initially leaving at the request of two residents, Brewer returned at approximately 2:40 a.m. by breaking back into the building. He then entered the victim’s room and sexually assaulted her while she was sleeping, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said.
Brewer was arrested later that day.
After initially pleading not guilty, Brewer changed his plea to no contest, foregoing a trial and proceeding directly to sentencing.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the assault and burglary charges.
No further details about the case or the circumstances surrounding the assault were immediately released.
UCLA officials have reiterated their commitment to campus safety and support for survivors of sexual assault.
