The incident occurred around 6 a.m. near the intersection of 6th Street and Western Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was discovered injured in the middle of the street by responding officers. Paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver involved in the collision fled the scene, leaving the elderly man behind.
