LOS ANGELES, CA – A 49-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an armed bank robbery that occurred in Lake Forest in October, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department announced Friday.
The suspect, identified as Edward Eugene Redd of Lake Forest, was apprehended early Friday morning by sheriff’s deputies and a SWAT team at his home without incident.
The robbery took place on October 17 at a Chase Bank located near Portola Parkway and Bake Parkway. According to authorities, a masked man armed with a handgun entered the bank, approached a teller, and fired a round near the teller’s feet before fleeing with over $30,000 in cash.
Following the robbery, investigators discovered several items on a nearby trail that they believed were linked to the crime. Using “investigative techniques and DNA technology,” detectives were able to connect the evidence to Redd, officials said.
Redd has been booked into the Orange County Jail and faces charges of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly firing his gun during the incident.
At this time, authorities have not linked Redd to any other bank robberies, but the investigation remains active.
The arrest highlights law enforcement’s continued focus on solving violent crimes in the community, with officials crediting advances in forensic technology for aiding in the suspect’s identification and capture.
