LOS ANGELES, CA – Homicide detectives are investigating a double fatal shooting that occurred late Monday night at a strip mall in Compton, Los Angeles County authorities confirmed.

The incident unfolded shortly after 11:05 p.m. on Dec. 2 in the 900 block of South Central Avenue, near the intersection of Alondra Boulevard. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of gunfire and discovered a man and a woman dead at the scene.

Preliminary findings suggest the confrontation began in the parking lot of Compton Plaza, where the victims were seated in a car. Investigators say the suspect arrived in another vehicle and intentionally crashed into their car.

When the man and woman exited their vehicle, the situation escalated. The male victim ran toward a nearby gas station as the suspect opened fire, though he was not struck by the gunfire. Meanwhile, the female victim sought refuge inside a market located within the strip mall.

The suspect followed her into the store and fatally shot her before turning the gun on himself. Both the woman and the suspect were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released the identities of the victims or the suspect, pending notification of next of kin. The motive for the attack remains under investigation, though detectives believe the incident was not random. The relationship between the three individuals involved is currently unclear.

Residents in the area expressed shock over the violence, describing the strip mall as a typically busy commercial area frequented by locals.

“This is really unsettling,” said one shopper who lives nearby. “You don’t expect something like this to happen at a place where families come to shop and fill up their cars.”

The Sheriff’s Department is urging anyone with information to contact its Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be provided through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS or visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not disclosed additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
