LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) is investigating a fatal deputy-involved shooting that occurred early Tuesday morning in East Los Angeles.
Deputies responded to a report of a man armed with a gun at a convenience store in the 6500 block of Olympic Boulevard around 12:44 a.m., according to an LASD advisory.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they encountered a man who allegedly produced a handgun. At least one deputy discharged their firearm, striking the individual, authorities said.
The deputies provided medical aid to the man until paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
A firearm was recovered at the scene, officials confirmed. No deputies were injured during the incident.
The LASD has not released additional details about the moments leading up to the shooting or the nature of the original call.
This incident is now under investigation by the LASD Homicide Bureau, which is tasked with determining whether the use of force was in line with department policies and procedures.
